Azure SQL Database provides defense-in-depth data protection through three complementary mechanisms operating at different granularities: three encryption layers (TLS in-motion, TDE at-rest, Always Encrypted in-use) protect data at every lifecycle state, ledger provides cryptographic tamper-evidence with immutable change records for regulatory compliance, and row-level security controls access to individual rows based on user characteristics without application changes.
